Synopsis
Simultaneous engineering (SE) is the term used interchangeably in
equipment manufacturing industries with the term "concurrent
engineering". The concept involves product planning which includes
all departments within an organization and customer representatives. The
goal is to share information to make the design, development, and
production of the product more streamlined and make the end product meet
final customer expectations and needs. US automotive industries have used
SE very successfully over the past decade to increase the level of
customer satisfaction for their products. This book uses these methods
(successes and failures) in the automotive industry involving SE and new
product development and provides applications to other industries.
