Evaluating Chemical Reactor Systems
The 'MATLAB in the World' section of the February-2002 Issue of 'MATLAB News & Notes' features work carried out by KHACE for BP Chemicals in the UK.
The 'Evaluating Chemical Reactor Systems' feature describes a Simulink-based dynamic simulation study supporting the replacement of individual air compressors feeding four chemical reactors with two new large compressors feeding common headers.
The picture accompanying the feature shows one small part of the block diagram: showing an overview of the model of just one of the two six-stage compressors. The red blocks contain the compression models; the cyan blocks contain models of the inter-stage condensers; the purple blocks contain the modelling of the heat and mass balances between compression-stage and condenser inflow and outflow; the orange blocks sum the torques for the driver model; the outline red blocks model the controls, including inlet-guide-vane actuation; the black box is part of the drive-train gearbox.
